Nigerian president, Buhari celebrates first made-in-Nigeria cell phones
London, June 10, 2021 (AltAfrica)-The first ever made in Nigeria cell phones called ITF Mobile presented the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari a rare good news on Wednesday after weeks of kidnapping and Twitter ban that dominated international headlines
The product , the first ever made in Nigeria cell phone was presented to him by his Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, just before commencement of the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Introducing the product to the President, Adebayo said it was produced by the Electrical/Electronics Technology Department of the Industrial Training Fund’s (ITF) Model Skills Training Centre, using locally sourced components.
Twelve indigenous mobile cell phones produced by the Model Skills Training Centre of the Industrial Training Fund; an agency under the Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, were launched.
“It gives me great pleasure Mr President, to present you with one of the phones.”
The cell phones first introduced in December 2020 are 4G enabled with the components entirely locally sourced
The Director General of Industrial Training Fund, ITF the agency that manufactured the product,, Sir Joseph Ari, said “Our modular skills centre in Abuja went into collaboration with the Institute of Technical education and Services of Singapore. Together with the trainees, we were able to produce mobile cell phones using local materials. The mobile cell phones are 4G with all the components you can have in any mobile unit”
Sir Ari said, the Agency was collaborating with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, to ensure they meet the required standards. “We are also working in tandem with the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON to ensure they are produced according to standards. So, these are done by Nigerians and ready for marketing.”
