Fired again: Ruthless Daniel Levy sacks Jose Mourinho as Tottenham Head Coach
London, April 29, 2021 (AltAfrica)-Jose Mourinho has been sacked as head coach of Tottenham.
The club are yet to confirm the decision, but it is understood Mourinho has left less than a week ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday, live on Sky Sports Football
Mourinho’s stormy tenure finally comes to an end as chairman Daniel Levy takes drastic action over the club’s disappointing second half to the Premier League season.
It is understood that Levy made the decision this week, six days before the League Cup final, because it would give him more time to appoint a replacement for next season. Also, the Spurs chairman hopes to allow for a bounce under the caretaker-management team that might carry the club into the top six.
Telegraph Sport believes first-team coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell will take charge for the remainder of the campaign.
At 11am on Monday morning, Tottenham released an official statement confirming Telegraph Sport’s breaking news, saying: “The club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff, Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra, have been relieved of their duties…
“Ryan Mason will take first-team training today and a further update will follow in due course.”
Mourinho had been in charge at Spurs since November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.
In his first campaign, Mourinho took Tottenham from 14th in the Premier League to finish sixth – securing Europa League qualification – but were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by RB Leipzig.
The club crashed out of this season’s Europa League at the last-16 stage following defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.
