London, Sep. 30, 2020 (AltAfrica)-Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Tuesday inaugurated the country’s first-ever faculty for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Nile Delta governorate of Kafr El-Sheikh, where he was shown a number of machines and was briefed on their different uses, a statement by the cabinet said.

One of the machines seen by Madbouly was a facial recognition device, according to the statement.

The AI faculty was established on April 2019 upon directives from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to utilise technology to serve society and focus on Artificial Intelligence to address challenges and changes resulting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The visit comes as part of an inspection tour by the prime minister at a number of development and service projects in the province.

The PM was accompanied by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar and a number of other ministers, as well as head of Kafr El-Sheikh University Abdel-Razek Desouki.

Desouki said that the faculty has three robots used to help young people develop the information economy in the future, the statement added.

“These robots provide a practical and educational way for students to apply what they have studied,” Desouki was quoted as saying.

“Also, the faculty has been provided with modern laboratories for designing, manufacturing and programming robots, as well as for analysing big data, cyber-security, deep learning, coding labs, and smart information systems,” he added
