Zambia sacks 49 year old education minister after nude videos go viral
London, July 30, 2020 (AltAfrica)-Zambian leader Edgar Lungu on Wednesday fired his education minister, David Mabumba, the presidency said, after nude video clips of him went viral on social media.
A statement from the presidency did not give reasons for his removal but it came after explicit viral video of the minister were leaked on Twitter, Facebook and shared via Whatsapp.
It only said Lungu “had terminated the appointment of Minister of General Education… with immediate effect”.
The said man in the video believed to be the sacked Minister of General Education was seen fondling himself while on live WhatsApp video with a woman in Zambia.
Mabumba is currently in quarantine over the coronavirus pandemic, according to local media.
Local media reported that police are now investigating the circulation of the nude video with a government official urging the public to stop circulating the video.
David Mabumba, 49, was appointed to the cabinet in 2016.
He previously served as energy minister and has now been replaced at the ministry of education by Dennis Wanchinga.
