Gambia promotes policewoman who controls traffic despite heavy rain
London, July 21, 2020 (AltAfrica)-A Gambia policewoman has been promoted after showing “diligence and dedication” by continuing to direct the traffic in heavy rain, Gambia’s police magazine reports.
In a photo that emerged at the weekend Corporal Kaddy Jarju can be seen doing her duties having waded through the middle of a huge puddle without any boots, and with her trousers rolled up to her knees.
Corporal Jarju instead of abandoning her post, took off her shoes, pulled up her trousers to knee level and got into the flowing water and continued to give signals to vehicles with unwavering passion, diligence and dedication amidst heavy rains, the police magazine says.
“Often time we share stories of our brothers and sister in uniform breaking the law but when they’re getting out of their comfort zone doing good things ask Kaddy Jarju did, don’t get the attention of many” said a twitter user who shared the story of the dedication of policewoman in the heavy downpour

The image of the selfless officer sparked admiration and requests by many Gambians of diverse backgrounds for the IGP to consider motivating the lady.
“This morning the Inspector General of Police Alhagi Mamour Jobe had the singular honour and pleasure of decorating Corporal Kaddy Jarju to the rank of Sergeant at his office”
While congratulating her for the hard work and selfless service, he used the opportunity to call on other officers to emulate such diligence and dedication to serving the public. BBC
