London, June 21, 2020 (AltAfrica)-Ghanaian health officials on Saturday said over 10,000 persons infected with the coronavirus have now recovered leaving the country with little and manageable active cases.

Ghana has just 3, 558 active cases of coronavirus after 10,074 recoveries

The significant number of recoveries means the country now has only a little over 3,000 active cases of the virus out of almost 14,000 infections.

85 persons have so far been confirmed to have died from the virus, according to latest statistics released by health officials.

Ghana however continues to records high cases of the virus with infections reportedly surging within communities.

The Ghana Health Service announced on Thursday it would adhere to the new discharge advisory by the WHO, and this has resulted in a significant rise in the number of recoveries in Ghana.

Ghana President Akufo-Addo says it is now mandatory for people to wear face masks in the public or risk ten years in prison: Ghana has just 3, 558 active cases of coronavirus after 10,074 recoveries

The new COVID-19 discharge guideline by the World Health Organisation (WHO) stipulates that persons infected with COVID-19 who show mild or no symptoms after 10 to 14 days are not infectious.

What the new WHO scientific evidence has established means that after 10 days of the disease onset, asymptomatic, or patients who do not show symptoms stand a very limited chance of transmitting the disease.

Total of 13,717 COVID-19 confirmed cases with 10,074 Recoveries and 85 Deaths

This week, health officials came under scrutiny as civil society groups and other citizens accuse them of massaging some aspects of the country’s Covid-19 data.

The country’s health officials are said to be under-reporting data especially the number of deaths across the country from the virus.

Civil society group OccupyGhana warned that “If the public suspects under reporting etc, there will be a loss of trust in the reporting system and that will have consequences that will influence public behavioural responses.”

Ghana’s Health Service however denied the claim of under-reporting figures with its officials saying they had to validate every figure before reporting it publicly.
