Isiolo Principal Magistrate, Evanson Ngigi said the Prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the Murungi committed the heinous act.

The court had been told that Murungi raped the girl two years ago after luring her from her home.

On the evening of June 13, 2018, the girl had come from her aunt’s house in Kiwanjani and upon reaching home, found that her mother had not returned.

She decided to play outside as she waited.

It was at this time that Murungi–who is known in the community as ‘Kalulu’–found her and told her she could go wait for her mother at his house.

When they got to his home, he told the girl to wash his clothes but she refused.

He attacked her, ripped her clothes off and raped her, all the while warning her not to scream.

The 60-year-old then locked the door and told her to go to sleep.

The next morning when she woke up, he raped her again.

The rapist then released the girl and when she got home, found that her mother had already left for work.

She looked for her uncle and told him what had happened. The uncle reported the matter at the police station and Murungi was arrested.

Following the court’s ruling on Tuesday, the convict has been given 14 days to appeal the sentence of life imprisonment
