Egypt, South Africa record another big jump in new covid-19 cases
London, May 25, 2020 (AltAfrica)-There appears to be no respite for Egypt and South Africa in reported cases of Coronavirus. The two African countries have the highest number of victims of the deadly virus on the continent

On Sunday, the two countries posted another disturbing figures of new infections in 24 hours
While Egypt reported 752 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infections to 17265,, South Africa recorded another 1240 new infections bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 22 583.
On Sunday, Egypt also reported 29 fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths to 764, South Africa reported 22 more Covid-19 related deaths – bringing the total national deaths to 429.

The health ministry in Egypt added that 179 patients have fully recovered and were discharged from isolation hospitals and quarantine facilities. The total number of recoveries from the highly contagious virus now stands at 4807.
The number of patients whose PCR test results have turned from positive to negative, including complete recoveries, has now reached 5366, ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said.

The new cases were detected through the ministry’s investigation and contact tracing protocols, he added.
Egypt announced last week stricter measures to be applied during the Eid El-Fitr holiday, which started on Sunday, to stem the spread of coronavirus.
According to the South African Health Minister, a total of 583 855 tests have been conducted to date with 19 485 tests done in last past 24-hour
The total number of recoveries is 11 100 with 11 483 active cases. This translates to a recovery rate of 49%.
