Nigeria releases 70,000 tons of grains to citizens to cushion the effect of the lockdown

London, April 2, 2020 (AltAfrica)-President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the release of Seventy thousand Metric tons of grains from the National Strategic reserve for distribution to vulnerable Nigerians to cushion the effect of the Lockdown.

Nigeria releases 70,000 tons of grains to citizens to cushion the effect of the Lockdown

Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID19, Mr Boss Mustapha stated this at the news briefing of the Task Force in Abuja.

According to Him, the first batch of the distribution would be released to Lagos and Ogun states as well as the FCT.

“I Am pleased to announce to you that Mr President has approved the release of 70,000 metric tonnes of grain from the strategic reserve for distribution to the poor, vulnerable and those whose livelihoods will be affected by the lock down,” he said.

Mr Mustapha added that 6,000 metric tonnes will be shared among the FCT, Ogun and Lagos States while the remaining tonnes will be shared among the frontline states.

Mr Mustapha said with time, same will be replicated in other states
