Nigeria: Falana absent as lively Sowore, Bakare arraigned for alleged Treasonable Felony
London, Sep 30, 2019 (AltAfrica)- The detained publisher of Sahara Reporters and convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, has arrived the Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria venue of his arraignment on charges of treasonable felony and other sundry offences instituted against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria
Omoyele Sowore, and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare were surrounded by operatives of the Department of State Services for the scheduled arraignment, arrived the fourth floor of the court edifice at about 9.10am
They are is to be arraigned before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, whose courtroom is located on the fourth floor.
However, counsel to Sowore and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Femi Falana, was absent in court.
The arraignment comes a week after Justice Taiwo Taiwo ordered the release of Mr Sowore, more than five days after a detention order he issued against him elapsed.
Sowore was arrested on August 3 for planning the #RevolutionNow protest but was arraigned on September 20 by the government.
He has been in the custody of the State Security Service, despite meeting the terms of a bail condition granted him on September 24.
Many Nigerians and civic groups have condemned the continuous incarceration of Mr Sowore despite last week’s court order.
