Nigeria 2023: We didn’t sponsor campaign group for Osinbajo-Ondo APC

London, Sep 28, 2019 (AltAfrica)-The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dissociated itself from a group that stormed the State secretariat of the party on Thursday, canvassing support for the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, ahead of 2023.

The Ondo state chapter of the Southwest Youth Congress (SYC)  led by One Bamidele Akintomide, had on Thursday during a rally says no amount of gimmicks or lies against Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo can stop him from becoming Nigeria’s president in 2023

The group alleged that “desperate cabals” were responsible for the “campaign of calumny” against Osinbajo to stop the presidency from moving to the south-west.

“While we are confident that the perceived threat against Professor Osinbajo bears the imprints of a desperate cabal’s wicked strategy for relevance, sadly they have also enlisted the support of agents of calumny of an equally desperate opposition,” he said.

“It is our considered opinion that such a campaign of calumny against a decent character like the Vice-President will not hold water in the eyes of right-thinking Nigerians

But a statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Alex Kalejaye, said, “the party wishes to firmly declare that it has no link whatsoever with the said group.

“For the records, the group that could best be described as a non governmental body, and looked a bit unorganised, only stormed the State secretariat of the party unannounced with their banners and other write-ups.

“The party notes with deep concerns that a highly sophisticated state politically like ours knows better than engaging in campaigns for an election prematurely,” the statement read in part.

The State chapter further appealed to those it described as desperate politicians and attention-seekers to encourage the Vice President, who was sworn in only a few months ago, to concentrate on the tasks and responsibilities attach to his office.

“We are sure, the Vice President is preoccupied with decisions and policies in the overall interest of the country, and could therefore do with less distractions,” the statement added.
