Boris Johnson declared new UK Prime Minister with overwhelming 92,000 votes
London, July 23, 2019 (AltAfrica)-Expectedly, Boris Johnson has become the new British Prime Minister. He’s succeeding Theresa May who resigned recently
Boris overwhelmingly defeated his challenger, Jeremy Hunt polling 92,153 as against Jeremy Hunt – 46,656
The victor will officially become UK prime minister on Wednesday.
Mr Johnson, former mayor of London although a number of senior figures have said they will not serve under him
Conservative Party Chairman Brandon Lewis says he has been “hugely proud” of the election contest, which he says has been “fair and efficient”.
He thanks those who have helped organise the hustings events, which he says have been “fantastic”.
He also pays tribute to outgoing PM Theresa May, adding that leading the country over the last few years “was never going to be an easy task
