Ghana Nat’l Security Arrests Three Journalists Over Unfavourable Report
London, June 28, 2019 (AltAfrica)-A group of men introducing themselves as National Security operatives have raided the office of online news outlet, ModernGhana, and arrested at least three editors, according to an editor of the website.
Editor-In-Chief William Nana Beeko said the raid was carried out Thursday after a publication was made about the National security minister Albert Kan Dapaah and New Patriotic Party MP Afenyo-Markin.
Beeko said laptops belonging to the online media outfit were seized in the course of the raid and the whereabouts of his colleagues remain unknown.
“We don’t know where they are now. The incident happened today [Thursday],” Beeko who is on leave told Starrfm.com.gh
A close associate of one of the arrested reporters known as Emmanuel Brintwum said “all efforts to know where exactly they have taken them have proven futile.”
“We have tried the lines of his editors but it has not been fruitful. Emmanuel only managed to call a friend saying he is in the custody of national security,” the associate said.
National Security is yet to make any official pronouncement on the raid. ModernGhana has been in operation since 2005.
