Portugal beat Netherlands to win inaugural European Nations League
London, June 9, 2019 (AltAfrica)- Portugal have done the European double – they won Euro 2016 and have now added the inaugural Nations League.
The hosts were deserved winners of the inaugural Nations League, with Goncalo Guedes’s thumping strike settling the final in Porto
They are an odd side, a bit of a motley crew with one or two class acts like Bernardo Silva. But they are brilliantly organised at the back, they work like stink and they have a demented glory addict in attack
The Netherlands paid the price for an appalling lack of threat in front of goal. It took them well over an hour to register a shot on target
Jamie Carragher: “Portugal were the better side. They looked most likely in and around the box. Ronaldo with a hat-trick, Bernardo Silva given the player of the tournament. They’ve been outstanding. Forget Ronaldo’s age – he’s a freak. He’ll keep going.”
Jamie Redknapp: “They were just a bit sharper. I think the England game took a lot out of this Netherlands side. Portugal looked sharp and quick. The substitutes came on and made a difference and I think you could also see the Netherlands were missing a frontman. They’d love to have England’s strikeforce.” Details later
