Premiership: Next season begins with another cracker as Liverpool face Man City in Community Shield
London, May 19, 2019 (AltAfrica)-Liverpool’s place in the Community Shield has been confirmed after Manchester City thrashed Watford 6-0 in the FA Cup Final.
Manchester City rounded off an outstanding season by crushing Watford at Wembley to clinch a historic domestic treble.
Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus both scored twice as Pep Guardiola’s team became the first English men’s side to achieve the feat of winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the same season.
They reaffirmed their status as this season’s dominant force as Watford were utterly outclassed, City achieving the biggest FA Cup final win since Bury beat Derby 6-0 in 1903.
The feat means the Reds will now face City in the Community Shield encounter which marks the opening of the 2019/20 football season, after finishing second in the Premier League this season.
After City completed a historic treble, the second placed team plays in the season opener.
This is the first time that Liverpool will be playing in the Community Shield since 2006, when Rafa Benitez led the Reds to a 2-1 victory over Chelsea.
