Zainab returns home as father thanks Nigerians for support
London, May 13, 2019 (AltAfrica)- Habibu Nuhu Kila father of Zainab Aliyu, a Nigerian student detained in Saudi Arabia over false allegations of drug trafficking has paid glowing tributes to Nigerians for overwhelming show of love while announcing the arrival of her daughter on Monday.
Ms Aliyu arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, MAKIA at 10am alongside Ibrahim Abubakar, another Nigerian detained by Saudi authorities in a similar case.
The duo were arrested and detained for four months by the Saudi Arabian anti-drug trafficking agency over alleged drug trafficking, but were released after Nigerian and Saudi authorities established their innocence.
“She’s back home. She arrived today (Monday) He told Alternativeafrica.com I must thank every Nigerian for everything. This issue brought unity to the country because Nigerians were united as they prayed for my family.Some people I had never met were ready to stand by me.
“I thank Nigerians, the international community and most especially president Muhammadu Buhari and his wife. She is a true mother”
On May 1, Zainab Aliyu, who was falsely accused of drug trafficking and detained in Saudi Arabia prison, on performed Lesser Hajj, Umrah, following her release on April 30.
Miss Aliyu was arrested on December 26, 2018, a day after her arrival in Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.
Ms Aliyu, in a telephone chat with DAILY NIGERIAN, appreciated the efforts of Nigerian government, media and civil society for campaigning for her release.
She said she was not maltreated at the Saudi prison.
