Britain jails two corrupt detectives for sabotaging child abuse investigations
London, May 10, 2019 (AltAfrica)-Two corrupt detectives have been given prison sentences after after sabotaging child abuse investigations.
SHaron Patterson, 49, was jailed for 18 months while her married lover Lee Pollard, 47, was jailed for two years at the Old Bailey.
During the trial they were described as being lazy, beyond incompetent and deceptive.
They forged documents and concealed evidence, showing ‘cynical disdain’ for victims and trying to convince others that decisions had been made to take no further action against suspects.
Prosecutor Alexandra Healy said the officers destroyed child sex offence cases because of ‘laziness’ and a disrespect for the people who brought allegations.
Their failure was ‘beyond incompetence’ and was not because of a ‘lack of resources’ or ‘insufficient investigative manpower’, the prosecutor said.
Pollard destroyed photographs while Patterson ditched work to get a manicure and they went out for a four-hour lunch at a Chinese restaurant. She said:
‘The effect was that allegations involving child sex offences were not properly investigated. ‘The motivation appears to have been a combination of laziness, self-preservation and sometimes a cynical disdain for complainants in these child abuse allegations.’
The couple, who live together in Colchester, Essex, denied misconduct in public office.
The allegations came to light when performance reviews were carried out into the child abuse investigation team, in the north of the county, which they worked in. (Metro UK)
