Nigeria: Anxiety as Ekiti government Reviews Fayose’s Last Minutes Appointments

London, May 4,2019 (AltAfrica)-Ekiti State Government has assured all those employed in the twilight of the immediate past administration of fairness in the on-going review of their employments.
The State Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation,
Mr Muyiwa Olumilua gave this assurance in Ado-Ekiti while addressing a
group of physically challenged people that were affected by the last minute appointment exercise of the last administration.
Noting that though the appointments did not go through necessary due
process involving biometrics, the Commissioner said that the State
Executive set up a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi
Egbeyemi to review the appointments and also determine available
vacancies within the public service.
Olumilua added that the committee had since concluded its assignment,
stressing that government would soon take decisive verdict on the issue.

The Commissioner said that no fewer than 600 teachers were recruited to
the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) while 400 personnel were employed
by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and 1,000 by the
Ministry of Establishment.
Reiterating the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to the
welfare of people in the State and generation of employment
opportunities particularly for the youths, Olumilua assured that
available vacancies would be equitably filled without prejudice and
undue political consideration.
Meanwhile, the State Government has restated its commitment to continue
to prioritize the welfare of teachers in the State.
The Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Honourable Babatunde
Abegunde, who gave the hint while monitoring schools’ resumption in
Gbonyin local government area of Ekiti State expressed satisfaction on
the teacher’s disposition to duties assuring them that government would
continue to put smiles on their faces.
The schools visited included Aisegba Community Grammar School, Aisegba
Ekiti, Ayo Daramola Memorial Grammar School, Ijan Ekiti and Odugbaye
Comprehensive High School, Imesi Ekiti all in Gbonyin local government
area of Ekiti State.
The Chairman discovered that most schools lacked the required number of
teachers as compared with the high rate of Students population.
He commended the teachers for their diligence and dedication to duties
noting that the teachers were the moulders of leaders of tomorrow who
need to be adequately motivated.
Earlier, the Principals of these Schools had enumerated some of the
challenges confronting the schools to include, lack of toilet facility,
water, shortage of Personnel etc.
They thanked the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for putting the right pegs
in right holes in his choice of appointment for education to move
forward in the State.
