London, April 13, 2019 (AltAfrica)-A human rights and Pro Democracy group, The Nigeria Voters Assembly, has strongly warned the Leadership of the ruling party, and President Muhammadu Buhari to be cautious of possible imposition of another opposition Candidates as key leaders in the next National Assembly.
In a release by the President of the Group, Comrade Mashood Erubami, said “It is becoming clearer than ever before that the reluctance by party members to accept the party’s preference for the Presidency of the National Assembly might hand another ‘Saraki’ over to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contend with.
The group said the deliberate rejection of the collective decisions of the party by individual party members should be strongly condemned as unacceptable and therefore intolerable, querying the rationale behind incessant refusal or rejection of party orders on account of self-interests without the party taking decisive action.
According to the group, it is now time for the President and the APC leadership to seriously resist and strongly stand against any anti party activities that might slow down the next government or make the party to fail, imploring the Party to quickly resolve Senator Ndumes refusal to step aside for Senator Lawan, the preferred candidate of the APC using strategic conflict resolution techniques.
“This must be so because if care is not taken, the PDP might turn out another wonder to win the Presidency or vote for a stooge from the APC whom they can direct against the policies and programs of the party to frustrate all the strategies that could make the APC to improve on its first term tenure and achieve its boasted agenda against the Corrupt Cabal in and outside government,” the group stated.
It therefore warned that the APC cannot afford another opposition leadership in the National Assembly in a Country where the Judiciary has consciously become the goalkeeper for corrupt political game players hence allowing division among the APC Senators in the selection and election of the President of the Senate.
This, according to the group will amount to being penny wise, pound foolish not being ready to learn from mistakes arising from past error of commission and omission.
It further warned that anything short of the party coming out boldly to announce those whom it has confidence in, that it believes can drive the Assembly to achieve the set objectives of its policy manifestoes and programs will amount to taking wrong steps to start the next level.
“To avoid a repeat of unethical legislative recklessness witnessed in the 8th National Assembly and selecting and electing Assembly leadership, the President and the Party Leadership must genuinely call the bluffs of any party member whose personal interest might want to be carried above Party’s interest in the 9th Assembly.
“The next level National Assembly must be a new partnership with the Executive that will jointly promote and defend democracy and good governance in which the critical mass will be the oxygen of democracy that will act as catalyst for social progress and economic growth,” the group submitted.
Meanwhile, the Group has urged Senator Ali Ndume and others so interested to queue behind the candidates supported by the party to head the assembly Chambers, not to underminethe position of their party on any issues which the party wants to maintain its supremacy.
“The party at any point is bigger than its individual members and should not allow willful disobedience of its rules and guidelines without making rectification. Party Members should rally round to correct disobedient members to ensure discipline subsists in the party. It is not just enough appealing to disgruntled members to fall in line, decisive sanctions should also be applied to ensure order where dialogue fails,” it added.
The group further stressed that, allowing Senator Lawan and Gbajabiamila to occupy the two key positions in the National Assembly given their ,Compassionate leadership examples, passion for the Poor, Loyalty to leadership, Commitment to National causes and Courageous dispensation to the course of law, will help invigorate peace, loyalty, rebuild confidence and legislative Order in the hallowed Chambers.
The Voter Assembly finally implores all interested Aspirant Members from the APC to support the preferred candidates being suggested, to stand for and win the election in the overriding best interest of the people.
“As we are dangerously transiting from the tenure of the eight Assembly to the ninth assembly after May 29, all hands must be on deck. The President, the Party leadership and the critical mass who cherish democracy must join hands to protect the National Assembly so as to ensure that the political infidelity that prevailed in the eight Assembly is not tolerated to play itself out again in the ninthAssembly,” the group concluded.
