UK backs Senator Ahmed Lawan for Senate Presidency
London, April 6, 2019 (AltAfrica)-In what appears to be a tacit endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan for senate leadership, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, has met with the Senate Leader and front line candidate for the Senate President seat, Senator Ahmed Lawan, to discuss an agenda for the 9th Assembly
The meeting between the duo was announced by the UK High Commission herself on said her official Facebook page where she revealed that she met with the Senate Leader to discuss police, oil sector and electoral reform.
A caption which accompanied the photo read, “Good to meet Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan and discuss priorities for the 9th Assembly. The NASS has a busy legislative agenda coming up including electoral, petroleum and police reform bills- Catriona Laing, British High Commissioner to Nigeria.”
Keen political watchers see the meeting between the two as an endorsement of Lawan by Britain.
The senator from Yobe State has also been endorsed by the All Progressives Congress.
The National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, threatened last week that any party member who was not ready to bow to the wishes of the party should get out.
