London, March 5, 2019 (AltAfrica)-The administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been commended for initiating even developmental projects in all the 16 Local Government areas of Ekiti State in the south-west zone of Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Banji Ojo gave the commendation in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop entitled, “Effective Implementation of Community Development Programs in the Local Government.”

The Permanent Secretary, who was represented by the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr. Babatunde Jegede explained that the workshop would enhance the on-going infrastructural development in the
rural areas, noting that “every community in Ekiti State is blessed with human, natural and material resources which if properly harnessed would bring about the desired socio-economic development in the rural areas.”

He implored the state government to conduct sufficient research into the existing resources and potentials in the local areas, with a view to tapping them for the benefit of the populace, asserting that involving local communities in governance would draw people at the grassroots closer to government and make governance all inclusive.

Ojo further explained that through self-help projects, various basic infrastructural facilities such as roads, bridges, markets, health institutions among others had been provided in the different parts of the country.

He therefore called on the officers in the Community Department of the Local Government Service Commission to mobilise all available government machinery to ensure good governance and desired development in the rural areas.
The Permanent Secretary also urged Community Development Officers in the 16 local government areas in the state to liaise appropriately with government to identify the areas of the people’s needs with a view to attending to them.
Earlier, the Director of Training in the commission, Mr. Emmanuel Agbola has said the training was meant to re-energize the capacity and intellectual base of participants to allow them forge ahead in their various assignments.

He therefore charged the participants to shun truancy and indolence at work stressing that the commission would not hesitate to deal decisively with erring officers.

The lead consultant at the Training, Mr. Morakinyo Akintayo explained that the Training was organized to equip participants with necessary knowledge and information to tackle the challenges of grassroots development.
