Nigeria: Senate cancels planned resumption over Onnoghen
London, Jan. 28, 2019 (AltAfrica)-Plans by the Senate to reconvene plenary to deliberate on the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen has been shelved.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Clerk to the Senate, Nelson Ayewoh.
“This is to inform all Distinguished Senators of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the resumption in plenary scheduled for tomorrow , Tuesday, 29th, January, 2019, has been cancelled
“The scheduled date of resumption in plenary earlier fixed for Tuesday, 19th, February, 2019, remains please”
The same clerk had on Sunday issued a statement to reconvene the plenary tomorrow, Tuesday
The leadership of the Senate had met on Saturday night on the issue.
It was learnt that the decision to reconvene was taken at the leadership meeting.
The Senate had on Thursday adjourned plenary to February 19 to allow senators embark on their reelection campaigns.
But due to the CJN’s suspension, they had planned to reconvene to deliberate on the matter following President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of Onnoghen.
