Ivory Coast announces $392 million investments to boost capacity of Azito Thermal Power Plant by 253 MW
London, Jan. 1, 2018 (AltAfrica)-The Ivorian government has announced an investment totaling 225.8 billion CFA francs (about $ 392.6 million) for to increase by another 253 MW the production capacity of the A zito thermal power plant in Yopougon, in the suburbs of Abidjan.
This project to strengthen the production capacity of the A zito plant , called “AZITO phase 4”, aims to meet the needs of satisfaction of the national electricity demand and the respect of the commitments, in terms of export of electricity.
This additional plant will be equipped with two turbines, one with 179 MW of gas and another with 74 MW, for a production of about 2,000 GWh. This will increase the total installed capacity of the current Azito thermal power plant from 430 MW to 683 MW at the end of these investments.
According to the Ivorian government, this new project could generate 2,000 direct jobs in the construction phase and 10 additional direct jobs in the exploitation phase.
Note that starting work of this additional plant are planned for the end of 1 st quarter 2019, for the commissioning of the gas turbine in the 3 rd quarter 2020 and the steam turbine to the 3 rdquarter 2021.
