Nigeria: Notorious highway robber arrested on Xmas day
London, Dec. 28, 2918 (AltAfrica)– An attempt by a notorious highway robbery gang to on Xmas day dispossess people of their belongings was thwarted by men of the Nigeria Police attached to Warewa Division in the outskirts of Lagos State.
Luck ran out against out one of the robbery syndicate terrorising motorists on the notorious Long bridge along Lagos/Ibadan express way on the 25th of December at about 10 pm when he was arrested by policemen, while trying to dispossess motorists of their belongings at gun point.
The suspect, Lucky Emmanuel who claimed to be living at mile 12 area of Lagos was among the four robbery gang who came out from under the bridge to rob some stranded passengers whose bus developed mechanical fault on the bridge.
While the driver was trying to rectify the fault, the hoodlums suddenly came out from under the bridge and held them hostage on gun point ordering them to surrender all in their possession.
According to the police spokesman in Ogun state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, luck however ran against them when policemen led by the DPO Warewa DIVISION, CSP Akinade Johnson who are on routine patrol on the bridge arrived the scene.
“On sighting the police, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased by the policemen and one of them by name Lucky Emmanuel was subsequently arrested while the other three ESCAPED”, Oyeyemi said.
Recovered from the arrested one is a locally made double barrel pistol with two live revolver ammunition.
Meanwhile, the Ogun state Commissioner of police, Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the suspect be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation.
He equally ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing members of the syndicate within the shortest possible time.
