London, Dec. 22, 2018 (AltAfrica)-It was ecstasy galore Thursday in the Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency where the representative of the cpnstituency at the National Assembly in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, Honourable Abdur-Raheem Olajide Jimoh distributed various empowerment tools and equipment to his constituents.
The materials distributed were of eleven categories namely; grinding machines, sewing machines, welding tools, clippers/sterilizers, facial steamers, generators and deep freezers.
Others were kits for expectant mothers, foot massagers, food stuff, hair dryers, fire extinguishers, wheel chairs and crutches.
Almost a thousand beneficiaries went away happily with various equipment relevant to their trades. The beneficiaries included hair dressers, welders/iron benders, physically challenged, barbers, aged ones, pregnant women, various artisans, vehicle owners/drivers, students and security personnel as well as those with health challenges among others. And the distribution was indiscriminately carried out in a manner that crossed across religious lines, ethnic boundaries, political affiliation and social leaning.
The event tagged Jide Jimoh Economic Assistance Scheme was the third edition of the programme and the occasion coincided with the 10th Statkesholder meeting of the constituency attended by chieftains of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his speech, the parliamentarian, Jimoh, having reeled out his achievements in the parliament in the past three years and some months said his kind of empowerment assistance was the one that would enable beneficiaries to know how to fish and not to beg for fish always.
According to him, politics is to bring succour to the needy, make available dividends of democracy to the people and let the resources of the country go round the people, reminding that, “that is the real meaning of democracy which is the government of the people, to the people and for the people.”
Jimoh, who is seeking a re-election back to the parliament next year therefore urged his people to vote for the ruling party, APC to ensure more dividends of democracy for them, insisting that, “it is only the tested and trusted party that can make the dream of the people of good things of life a reality.”
Reacting, one of the leaders of the party in the state, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi commended Jimoh, saying he is always in the forefront of making life more comfortable for the people.
While urging the people to vote for him and all other contestants on the party’s platform again in next year election, Olusi assured them of more dividends of democracy if they do so, pointing out that, “since our party has been tested and trusted, it would only be reasonable to retain a winning team.”
The State Secretary of the party, Dr. Wale Ahmed also commended Jimoh, saying, “his experience as a grassroots politician since his time as a member of the Lagos State Legislative House, to his time as two times Local Government Chairman down to now that he is a Federal Parliamentarian is helping him to surpass others in the art of relating with the people.”
He also appealed to the people to return him and other party’s candidates to various positions they will be contesting to occupy next year.
An elated beneficiary, Boss Dosu, who got a grinding machine, spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries saying, “Honourable Jide Jimoh stands tall and shoulder high above some of his colleagues because of the quality of equipment he constantly push out to the people constantly.”
While assuring Jimoh that the items given to them would be judiciously utilised to make them economically self-reliant and financially independent, Dosu promised that, “we will not disappoint you and by God’s grace, you and your party would be voted for, overwhelmingly next year to return you to office so that this kind of largess would not cease.”
