Nigeria: Ex-convict re-arrested for robbery days after released from prison in Ogun

Abeokuta. October 31, 2018 (AltAfrica)-An ex-convict, Kingsley Chukwu was on Monday re-arrested by men of Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command in Onipanu area of Ota.
His arrest, according to the state police spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi followed a distress call received by Police at Onipanu Division that an Okada rider was attacked at Divine Wisdom community in Iyesi area and his bike was snatched away.
Consequently, she said, the DPO Onipanu Division SP Sangobiyi Johnson quickly led his anti-robbery team to the scene, combed the entire area with the assistance of the CDA members and apprehended the suspect while his accomplice escaped.
Further search led to the recovery of the snatched Honda motorcycle.
On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and his fleeing accomplice pretended as passengers when they stopped the okada man, and they hit him on the head with a sharp object which made him to be unconscious before they dispossessed him of the motorcycle.
He further disclosed that he has been convicted for similar offence and just came out of prison.
The victim, Umaru Hassan has been taken to the hospital where he is responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered a serious manhunt for the escaped accomplice.
He equally directed that the arrested suspect be transferred to FSARS for discreet investigation.
