Nigeria: Court Remands Lecturer Accused Of Raping 13-Year-Old In Prison
Makurdi. October 25, 2018 (AltAfrica)-A Nigeria Chief Magistrate court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state has remanded Andrew Ogbuja, a lecturer accused of repeatedly raping a 13-year-old minor, Miss Ochanya Ogbanje, in prison custody till November 29.
Lack of jurisdiction made the presiding Chief Magistrate, Isaac Ajim to order the remand of the accused, as he declined to entertain the charge of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide preferred against the lecturer by the Nigerian Police.
Court document revealed that the 13-year-old victim died on October 17 due to Vesico Vagina Fistula (VVF) complications as a result of her ordeal, sparking outrage and calls for those responsible to be brought to justice.
Ochanya Ogbanje, a Junior Secondary School 1 student of Federal Government College, Gboko, Benue State at the time of her death, and a cousin of the lecturer’s wife was allegedly raped by the lecturer for the three years she lived with them.
