South Africa closes Nigerian Church over sex allegation
Johannesburg, October 21, 2018 (AltAfrica)-Jesus Dominion International Church, owned by a Nigerian pastor, Timothy Omotoso in Port Elizabeth has been closed indefinitely
Omotoso and his co-accused Zukiswa Sitho (28) and Lusanda Sulani (36), are facing multiple charges, ranging from racketeering to sexual assault and rape allegedly committed across the country and abroad including in Nigeria and Israel
On Sunday morning, civil society groups and political parties gathered outside the church, demanding that it be shut for good.
It comes after 22-year-old Cheryl Zondi’s testimony shocked many people in court this past week.
Zondi described how Omotoso had allegedly raped her since the age of 14.
The evangelist is accused of sexually abusing about 30 girls.
Edward Mafadza from religious protection body the CRL Rights Commission, as well as Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana from the South African Council of Churches, discuss the issue.
