Zambia Arrests Chinese For ‘Illegal Military Training’
London, October 2, 2018 (AltAfrica)-Police in Zambia say they have arrested at least 11 men, including two Chinese nationals for allegedly giving illegal military training to members of a local security firm.
They were also accused of using suspected military attire in the country’s tourist capital, Livingstone.
One of the Chinese was arrested on Saturday and another on Sunday
Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso said in a statement that a Zambian director of Alert Safety Security in Livingstone was also detained together with eight Zambians who were employed by the company.
“Upon investigations, one pistol, seven shotguns and one big air gun with a box containing shotgun ammunition were recovered allegedly owned by the security company proprietor. The group has been conducting trainings without clearance from the police because the uniform used looks similar to the one used by Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA),” the statement partly read.
The security company and the suspects have not yet commented on the allegations.
