CAF Confederation Cup: Raja edge past CARA to confirm final four spot
London, September 24, 2018 (AltAfrica)-Raja Casablanca have successfully booked their place in the semifinals of the 2018 Caf Confederation Cup following a 1-0 (3-1 on aggregate) win over CARA Brazzaville at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca on Sunday evening.
The Moroccan club beat their opponents 2-1 in the reverse fixture in Brazzaville last weekend, before completing the job on home soil in front of a packed stadium in Casablanca.
Soufiane Rahimi and Mahmoud Benhalib scored two important away goals for the Green Eagles in the Congo, while Cabwey Kivutuka hit the back of the net for CARA.
Raja only had to wait four minutes to strengthen their grip on the tie as Mouhcine Iajour headed home for the hosts. The forward rose highest from a free-kick to power home and duly send the fans into delirium.
The hosts were relatively comfortable throughout as they held onto their narrow lead until the final whistle.
Raja join Nigerian club Enyimba in the semifinals, with two more places up for grabs. The People’s Elephants beat Rayon Sports 5-1 in Aba earlier on Sunday.
