Mo Salah, C. Ronaldo and Luka Modric nominated as final three for Uefa Men’s Player of the Year award
London, August 20, 2018,(AltAfrica) – Mohamed Salah has been named in the final three alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric for the Uefa Men’s Player of the Year award.
The Egyptian international netted 44 goals in 52 games for the Reds last season as Jurgen Klopp’s side lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Ronaldo – now with Juventus – starred for Los Blancos alongside Luka Modric to help the La Liga giants claim their third consecutive European Cup.
The ex-Manchester United forward has won the trophy a record three times – and has been crowned as the best player in the last two award ceremonies.
It is a first nomination for former Chelsea winger Salah, while Modric has bettered his fourth place finish he achieved last season.
As well as winning his fourth Champions League title, the ex-Tottenham ace helped Croatia reach the World Cup final – where they lost 4-2 to France.
For the second time in three years, Lionel Messi was not included in the final three – despite helping Barcelona win the Spanish top-flight and Copa del Rey.
He could only muster up a fifth place finish, as World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann – who also helped Atletico Madrid win the Europa League – pipped him to fourth spot.
His Les Blues team-mate Kylian Mbappe finished in sixth spot following his sensational debut campaign with Paris Saint Germain.
Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne came in seventh, followed by Raphael Varane, Eden Hazard and Sergio Ramos.
