Nigeria: Sacked DSS boss must be charged with treasonable felony-Hon. Oladele
London, August 8, 2018 (AltAfrica)-A Federal lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency of Ogun State, Hon. Kayode Oladele, is calling for a criminal prosecution of the sacked DSS boss, Lawal Daura.
The lawmaker, who is also a Human Rights lawyer in a telephone interview with AltAfrica.com described the shut down of the National Assembly as a failed coup against democracy and a major constitutional infraction that must be treated as a criminal offence after thorough investigation.
Barrister Oladele, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Financial Crimes while condemn the shutting down of the National Assembly complex by the men of the sacked DG, commended the action of the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for his prompt response.
“The siege on NASS by the nation secret police, is amounted to treasonable felony for which Daura should be promptly tried by a court of competent jurisdiction in the country.
“Let me tell you DSS was established primarily to gather intelligence within the country and for the protection of senior government officials, particularly the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives and state Governors.
“The agency lacks the power and it is in fact criminal for the DSS to take over or seal the National Assembly, which, is the only institution that is truly representative of Nigerian people and its democracy.
“Daura must be thoroughly investigated and punished accordingly. International community are watching us”, he concluded
