World cup 2018: Eagles arrive St. Petersburg for Argentina showdown
London, June 25, 2018 (AltAfrika)-Ahead of the final group stage match between Nigeria and Argentina, the Super Eagles on Sunday evening arrived their base in St Petersburg.
The Eagles landed at the Pulkovo Airport by 7pm local time and headed straight to the Corinthia Hotel in Nevsky Avenue, with a weather condition 13°.
Nigeria have played and lost to Argentina four times out of their five appearances in the World Cup.
This fifth is a decider on who progresses to the knock out stages, with Nigeria coming into the game with a superior second place position on the table after a 2-0 win against Iceland while Argentina are last on the table with just one point from a 1-1 draw against Iceland.
Meanwhile. Arsenal and Super Eagles’ star, Alex Iwobi, says the team remains focused against Argentina their all-important clash on Tuesday
Iwobi, who is making a dream World Cup appearance at the age of 21, said it was a great honour to represent his country at the biggest football showpiece in the world.
“It has always been my dream to play at the biggest stage in the world and no stage is bigger than the World Cup. So I am happy to be here representing my country and it’s an honour.
“We are very confident, especially after a great result against Iceland. We are very confident and motivated so we are preparing well and hope to get a good result against Argentina as well,” Iwobi said.
The Super Eagles, who came from two goals down to defeat Argentina in a friendly in November 17, 2017 in Russia, will take on their familiar foes on Tuesday in their last Group D game at the St. Petersburg Stadium.
