Nigeria: Police Arrests Pastor, Others Operating Fake WAEC Examination Centre
Lagos, April 28, 2018 (AltAfrika)-Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command has arrested a pastor identified as Adeniyi Joshua on suspicions of operating a fake West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) examination centre in Igbogbo, Ikorodu.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi, who revealed this while parading suspected criminals arrested by his operatives disclosed that the pastor and his conspirators were arrested on April 25, following a complaint by a senior member of the staff of WAEC office, Ogba.
He said: “The complaint was that there exists a fake WAEC centre at El-Supreme Private School located at No. 3, Oseni Adekogbe Street, Igbogbo Ikorodu.
“Operatives of the Command attached to Area ‘G’ Ogba, were mobilised to the above address where one Pastor Adeniyi Joshua of El-Supreme Church was arrested.
“WAEC question papers and answer sheets suspected to be forged were recovered from the suspect”.
According to him, the pastor was linked up with those who provide him prepared answers of the leaked 2018 examination questions, adding that the suspect created a WhatsApp group, called ‘WAEC VIP,’ where he shares and sells leaked (expo) questions and answers on request.
He said further: “The second suspect, Adebayo Ifeoluwa, 17, a student of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTS), Ondo State, also created a WhatsApp group of his own, called ‘MCC,’ where he share leaked (expo) questions and answers, while Elusode Festus, 20, an iron-bender apprentice, who resides in Ekpoma, Edo State, created two WhatsApp groups, named ‘WAEC Home of Expo’ and WAEC VIP,’ where he shares questions and answers to students.
“Alayande Ahmed, 16, who is undergoing training on repairs of damaged mobile phones, was also linked to the crime. He got expo from other groups he belongs and share with students”.
On part of mode of operation of the principal suspect, police said, the suspect upon enrollment of unsuspecting students, would have them sit for fake examination in which photocopies of fake WAEC questions papers and answer sheets are used.
Police added that thereafter, he would then dispose of the scripts after the exam.
The suspects, police will be charged to court after completion of the investigation.
