Abeokuta, April 27, 2018 (AltAfrika)-The Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command has arrested 3 fake soldiers in Adatan area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects Abayomi Amos Akanji ,Adebayo Rasheed Oladimeji and Lawal Musa Akinmoye have been terrorising residents at Adatan, Bode Olude and other Communities under the pretence of being personnel of Nigerian Army.
Their activities, Oyeyemi said were at the peak during the fuel crisis when they harassed people at various fuel stations in fully army uniform
She revealed further that luck however ran against the suspects on the 17th April when the DPO Adatan Division CSP Olajide Joshua led his men on routine patrol and accosted the first suspect Abayomi Amos Akanji in full military camouflage uniform without a name tag.
“His appearance look suspicious and that prompted the Policemen to put some questions to him in order to ascertain his authenticity, but he was unable to give good and satisfactory account of himself as a soldier.
“He was promptly arrested and taken to the station.
“On interrogation, he confessed beinga fake soldier and that he stole the uniform in an army barrack where he visits frequently.
“He further named his other accomplices who have been parading themselves as soldiers which include Adebayo Rasheed and Lawal Musa.
“They were both arrested on the 24th of April 2018. Recovered from them are; one full army camouflage uniform, Nigeria Army folder, Army face cap and vests”.
Meanwhile, Oyeyemi said, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
