Nigeria Police Deploy more Personnel to Kwara, Taraba over spate of violence
Abuja, April 8, 2018 (AltAfrika)-The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the deployment of more personnel to Kwara and Taraba States in a bid to arrest the spate of killings in the two States . The two states have recently witnessed blood bath leading to lost of several lives.
This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, on Sunday.
It reads: “The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, concerned with the Banks Robbery attack in Offa, Kwara State has ordered deployment of three Police Mobile Force Units, high powered police investigation team, Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) with Ten (10) Crew members and Anti-Robbery equipment to Kwara State”.
According to the Force PRO, twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the bloodbath in Donga and Bali LGAs of Taraba state.
The suspects are: “Ali Runo, Hassan Ruwo, Chindo Umoru, Yinusa Usman, Shittu Usman, Tervesee John, Terse Joseph, Victor Madu, Theophilus Ajee, Hasama George, Tervise Boniface and Tijie Evarso.
Recovered from them according to the police are: “Seven AK47 Rifles, Four (4) Locally made Revolver Pistols and 30 Rounds of AK47 Ammunition, Seven Operational Vehicles of the Armed Robbers”.
Commiserating with the governments and people of the affected states, IGP Idris appealed for calm and urged the public to report suspected individuals to the nearest police station.
According to ACP Moshood, the immediate intervention of a high-powered Police investigation team deployed by the Inspector General of Police working with the Kwara State Criminal and investigation department resulted in the arrest of the eighth principal suspect.
“The Offa incident where nine Policemen and Eight (8) other persons were killed, the names of the seven suspects and the additional one suspect bringing to eight suspects arrested in connection with the incident have admitted to the various criminal roles they played in the bank’s robbery attacks.
“The suspects are assisting Police investigation into the incident, they are being withheld but will be disclosed after the arrest of the remaining suspects and completion of the investigation into the crime”, he said.
Earlier on Saturday, the Kwara State Government had placed N5million bounty on the suspects behind the robbery attack in Offa Local Government area of the state.
A statement by the SSA to the State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed on Media and Communications, Muideen Akorede stated that the money will be offered to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
He said, “The governor is deeply saddened by the tragic incident that happened at Offa. He considers it to be very wicked on the part of the robbers who unleashed such violence on the people and community of Offa.
“The governor is offering N5million bounty to anyone who provides information leading to the apprehension and prosecution of those suspected to be involved in this act.
