Nigeria High Commission in UK suspends postal order on Passport Issuance
London, Jan. 24, 2018 (AltAfrika)-The Nigeria High Commission in the United Kingdom has suspended the collection of postal order on issuance and re-issue of Nigerian passport
The twenty pounds postal order is an age long requirement for passport applicants in the UK in addition to the cost of the document
Though there’s no mention of the information on the website of the commission, Nigerians who showed up at the no 9 Northumberland Ave, Westminster, London for passport and other consular services were shocked when they were told to return the postal order and that it was no longer required.
Some of them who spoke to Alternativeafrika expressed great delight . A lady with four children who identified herself simply as Ola said “I have just been saved £100 now. Myself and four children. each one of us must submit £20 postal order to be attended to . This is unbelievable.
Another man, Kingsly enjoined the Commission to make the information available to as many as possible. “As i talk to you now, the information on the website still requires postal order with your passport fee. don’t you see contradiction? I have a feeling that this new High Commissioner is a different man that would rid this place of corruption”
No officer of the commission is willing to speak with Alternativeafrika in official capacity but some of them said postal order is not required anymore, at least for now.
Another one said” For now we no longer require postal order for passport application but the decision is under review “
