Nigerian, 2 others jailed in UK after cops trace ‘smoking gun’
London, Jan. 17, 2018 (AltAfrika)-A UK based Nigerian and two other men have been jailed after a forensics team linked them to a string of offences involving the same gun.
Richard Ojo, Myron Hyllam and Mamud Mansaray were responsible for four shootings in south London in 2016.
According to London Metro report today (Wednesday), Met Police set up a team as part of its Trident gang crime unit last January to identify when the same weapon has been used in an incident.
The report stated that, officers were able to link the four offences in Lambeth and Wandsworth the previous year with ammunition found at the scene, even though the firearm — believed to be a self-loading pistol — was never recovered.
Ojo, 25, and Hyllam, 27, were found guilty after a trial at Woolwich crown court in October of conspiracy to rob and having a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Det Supt Mike Balcombe, from Trident Command, said: ‘Through outstanding police work and expert forensic analysis, three men responsible for a series of firearms offences have been taken off the streets of London.’
