Petition to force UK government to end indefinite detention of immigrants gathers pace
London, Jan. 7, 2018 (AltAfrika)-About 10,000 people have signed a petition calling on British government to end indefinite detention of immigrants into the United kingdom
The petition spearheaded by Liberty, a Human Rights organisation says the UK is the only country in Euroupe that locks up immigrants without any specific day of release
“The UK is the only country in the EU to detain migrants indefinitely – a human rights abuse that undermines the whole immigration system. It allows staff to act with impunity, as though they have licence to assault and abuse. It is psychological torture: even people who go in without mental health issues come out traumatised”
The petition addressed to the Home Secretary, Hamber Ruth said indefinite detention not only costs money, but been found to be ineffective way of reducing immigration..
