Blood bath as gunmen murdered 20 in Nigeria
The Nigeria Inspector General of PoliceBy Rasaq BamideleIt was a day of terror as over 20 people were murdered in Rivers State in the South-South region of Nigeria. The victims were mainly worshipers who were returning from a crossover night church program in Omoku area of the oil rich state earlier Monday. This was from the natives and a pastor from the area.
“These 21 worshippers included women and children. The incident occurred at Krigani road at Omoku. A whole family was also wiped out in the unfortunate murder,” said Dandy Bathuel, a pastor in the area.He added that “those killed include people who attended New Year vigil in various churches at Omoku. They were returning home when the gunmen opened fire on them.”An environmentist and rights activist in the area, Comrade Fyneface Fyneface also confirmed the violence to our reporter.Though the Police spokesman in the state, Omoni Nnamdi, in a telephone chat with our reporter confirmed the attack which he blamed on “some unidentified gunmen,” he however did not give definite figure of the casualties in the dastardly act.
His words: “I can confirm the incident to you as our men are already on the manhunt of the unknown gunmen who perpetrated the dastardly act. But we are still putting our reports together and it will be premature to tell you the number of casualties at the moment.”He further said further details would be given on the incident, which marks a new turn in the violence that often grips the oil-rich state.Recall that crimes like kidnapping and wanton destruction of lives and property are the occurrences in the zone and that informed the deployment of police crime fighters in the axis.
