Lagos, Nigeria. Dec. 13, 2017 (AltAfrika)-It was a day of rage and fury in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria on Wednesday as fire destroyed over 20 vehicles, several motorcycles and other property worth about a billion naira.
The incident happened at the popular Link Bridge on First Avenue in the FESTAC axis of Lagos metropolitan around noon. The outbreak, according to an eye witness was caused by a petrol laden tanker which fell down and spilled its inflammable content that caught fire and cause the havoc.
The scene of the accident was chaotic when alternativeafrika visited the residents, workers, students and traders engaged in dialogues with their legs. Although no causality was recorded, the havoc would have been minimal, according to a police officer, if Fire Fighters’ Station had arrived on time.
The conflagration had almost gone out of hand by the time the fire fighters appeared at the scene.
Several security personnel from the Army, Police, paramilitary to Road Transport Unions were seen controlling movements and making sure that law and order was maintained.
As at when filing this report, the traffic gridlock around the axis was unprecedented as there was no way any vehicle could be allowed near the scene of the accident to forestall further hazards.
