American Doctor Sentenced in Multi-Million Dollar Health Care Fraud
London, Nov. 14, 2017 (AltAfrika)-A registered medical Doctor in US has been sentenced to 48 months in prison, to be followed by one year of supervised release, and was ordered to pay restitution of $2,198,520.37 for his participation in a multi-million dollar health care fraud and money laundering scheme.
The illegal scheme involved the filing of fraudulent insurance claim forms that defrauded health care benefit programs.
Joaquin Mendez, 52, of Miramar, previously pleaded guilty to one count charge of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1347; all in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1349.
Co-defendants Kenneth Chatman, Fransesia Davis, and Michael Bonds established sober homes which were purportedly in the business of providing safe and drug-free residences for individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
Mr. Greenberg commended the investigative efforts of the Greater Palm Beach Health Care Fraud Task Force.
