London, Oct. 23, 2017 (AltAfrika)– The Egyptian air forces today claimed to have destroyed a number of vehicles loaded with weapons and ammunition that infiltrated into Egypt from neighbouring Libya, army spokesman said.
Eight vehicles carrying weapons, ammunition and highly explosive substances have been destroyed in the country’s western desert, military spokesman Tamer al-Refaay said in a statement. He added that all terrorists inside the vehicles were killed.
On Saturday, Egyptian Interior Ministry announced that 16 policemen were killed and another was missing in shootout with terrorists on Friday in the western desert.
A wave of terror activities that killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers hit Egypt since the military ousted former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule.
Terror attacks are mainly centered in the country’s North Sinai, but it has in recent months spread nationwide, leaving hundreds of policemen and soldiers dead.
A militant group loyal to the regional Islamic State terrorist group has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks.
Meanwhile, security raids killed hundreds of militants and arrested a similar number of suspects as part of the country’s anti-terror war.
